The USMNT Exit the World Cup

The USMNT was knocked out of the tournament in the round of 16. 4 years earlier the team advanced to the same stage before being defeated by another talented European squad. Many had expected the team to have a further run in the tournament this time around, as many of the previous starters had returned.

Initially team USA looked strong in the group stages with impressive performances, however Belgium proved to be too talented of an opponent in the knockout match. After team leader Christian Pulisic left the pitch with a leg injury, the team lost momentum. An overall poor performance with several defensive errors and mistakes lead to the exit from the 2026 World Cup on home soil. Questions remain about the future of Head Coach M. Pochettino.
